Lamprini Papargyri is a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Earth System Science at Stanford University, co-advised by Steve Davis and Ken Caldeira.
Background
Lamprini Papargyri's current research lies at the intersection of climate policy, economics, and equity, where she develops integrated models that inform equitable and sustainable pathways for climate mitigation and economic development. Her work explores how economies with income inequality can optimally allocate resources between income redistribution and emissions abatement.
She holds a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Cyprus, where she worked under Professor Panos Papanastasiou. Her doctoral research used computational modeling — three-dimensional finite-element methods and the extended finite-element method (XFEM) — to study stress and degradation mechanisms and to optimize the durability of materials used in photovoltaic systems. She has led and contributed to multi-million-euro research initiatives across Europe, and maintains an interest in the societal and ethical dimensions of emerging technologies.

Photovoltaic durability and reliability
- An analysis of how thermomechanical stress accumulates and drives cracking in photovoltaic modules built with full and half-cut cells (Papargyri et al., 2024).
- A study of how the choice of materials and module design governs the cracking of solar cells under mechanical loading (Papargyri et al., 2022).
- A review bringing together modeling and experimental work on microcracks in crystalline-silicon photovoltaics (Papargyri et al., 2020).
